River
In the fall of 2021, our friend Todd, from Arthur’s Acres, reached out to us about a young disabled pig with several ailments – most notably that he was recovering from a nasty infection in his right hind leg. This infection stopped the growth in that leg and, as River grew, the difference in the length of his good leg compared to his infected leg became considerably more apparent. As well, we learned that River was suffering from severe mental impairment which added a whole other level of challenges in caring for this very special boy. Given the location of Arthur’s Acres being in New York state and us being further south, coupled with our experience with disabled pigs and the equipment we have acquired over the years, we all agreed that River’s best chance would be for him to move to Ziggy’s.
As River grew, we’ve had to constantly change out his prosthetic leg so he can maintain the use of his bad leg and avoid further repercussions from his earlier infection.
River is now nearly 500 pounds and he’s doing great! He loves to take long naps after breakfast and, as the day goes on, his energy level just keeps on climbing. At the end of the day, he can always be counted on for a serious case of the zoomies, flying across the yard and back! We love this boy with his sweet, goofy personality more and more every single day! As River grew, we’ve had to constantly change out his prosthetic leg so he can maintain the use of his bad leg and avoid further repercussions from his earlier infection. He gets around great with his prosthetics and is our miracle boy!!
